About Safe Home Advisor
Safe Home Advisor is an independent guide to the equipment that helps older adults stay safe and independent at home: medical alert systems, stairlifts, walk-in tubs and showers, grab bars, and mobility aids. We write for two kinds of readers: older adults planning ahead for themselves, and the adult children who are often researching on a parent’s behalf.
These are big decisions, often made after a fall or a scare, and often under time pressure. The products are sold with a lot of marketing and not much plain information about cost. We try to answer the questions people actually ask first: what it really costs, whether Medicare or another program will help, whether it fits the home and the person, and what to watch out for in the contract.
How we research
Our articles are based on published product specifications, manufacturer pricing and terms, coverage rules from Medicare and other programs, and reputable health and safety sources. We cite our sources and update articles when products or prices change. When we haven’t tested a product ourselves, we don’t pretend we have.
Editorial independence
This site is reader-supported. We may earn commissions from some of the companies we write about, but those relationships never determine our rankings or recommendations. If a product is a poor fit for a need, we say so. Read our full affiliate disclosure.
Not professional advice
We publish consumer guidance, not medical, legal, or professional advice. In an emergency, call 911. Read our disclaimer.
